English Shepherd Puppy in Eddie Bauer Catalog

We got the new Eddie Bauer catalog this morning and I noticed something interesting on the cover and first page, an English Shepherd puppy.  Take a look!

Not only I am fairly sure it is an English Shepherd but it looks lot like Cody did when he was a puppy.  Sable coloring with a splash of white here and there including the “white socks” as we like to call them.  While this Eddie Bauer catalog puppy is cute, we obviously think that Cody was a much cuter puppy.   I guess Cody should have done some dog modeling! 🙂

UPDATE: The puppy featured in the Eddie Bauer catalog is NOT an English Shepherd.  It is actually a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.  A lot of people actually think Cody is a duck toller so it's not surprising I think they look like English Shepherds.  Even Eddie Bauer got it wrong as this was in the catalog:

Darwin is a New Brunswick duck tolling retriever.  He's enjoying a break in his training to become an avalanche rescue dog at the Crystal Mountain ski area near Seattle.

I noticed the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever community is a little upset since there is no such thing as “New Brunswick duck tolling retrievers.”  I am sure there some duck tollers live in New Brunswick though.

  1. I actually think it’s a Duck Tolling Retriever. It looks just like my friend’s Toller. They are built somewhat like an ES, but get bigger. They have those pretty red noses, too.

Oh, you might be right! People think Cody is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever a lot. The puppy looks a lot like an English Shepherd though. In Eddie Bauer’s next catalog they should use an English Shepherd puppy! 🙂

  2. Our Ruby is the most beautiful duck tolling retriever

  3. The dog featured on the cover is almost certainly a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (aka Duck Toller). Based on the coloration, relative size, “Yak-Like” puppy fur, I’d say the likelihood of it being a Toller approaches 100%. So who cares? Anyone thinking about a dog friend that is intelligent, great around kids and has an insatiable appetite for fetching tennis balls and bird hunting might want to consider looking into this breed. Let the record show that I am not offended that Eddie Bauer missed the mark on identifying the pup – it’s a a common mistake and we plan to still buy EB products as in the past.

People are just curios to know what type of breed the puppy is. I think Duck Toller enthusiasts would have preferred if Darwin was identified properly.

  4. That’s my puppy Darwin! Well, he was a puppy when they shot last spring. I was bummed to see that EB missed the breed’s proper name, but still glad to see him on the cover!

All dogs are cute… until they break, eat, or ruin something! 🙂
